I am a music writer looking to work with a lyricist.

While I sing and play guitar and can put together a reasonable demo in my home studio, I am not a performer and am looking to write music for other artists to perform-and hopefully record.

If the song works out, I will then take it to a producer to get it done ‘properly.’

Having been down this path a few times before, with I guess mixed results, I’ll tell you what I am looking for-you can let me know whether you’re interested in working together. That way we can save some time and effort if we’re not on the same wavelength.

When I have tried this before

The times I have tried this before, a lyricist has generally sent me a set of lyrics (or partial lyrics) to compose to. From there I put together a song with verse chorus, break, etc., and I am prepared to put a lot of effort into getting the music right.

So far, the process has been a bit frustrating,

because many lyricists have good ideas, but unfortunately have never studied or read up on how to write a complete set of lyrics. It’s one thing to have the ability to put good ideas on paper, but another one to be able to write a complete lyric that will stand up to the scrutiny of an artist looking to using someone else’s song.

I mean things such as a development of a storyline, a theme that puts the singer in a good light and appeals to a variety of artists. I guess you could say this is writing to bit of a formula; however, if you’ve studied song writing you’ll know what I mean.

While I am not much good at writing lyrics and don’t enjoy the process, I have read up a lot and studied what make a good set of lyrics.I am looking to work with an artist who understands that lyrics often need to be worked on and crafted, and that a bit of work is required, rather than just moving onto something else.

I hope this make some sense to you. Let me know if you think we are on the same page and we can chat some more.
